Music Ministry: Serving and Growing at Youth For Christ Hawaii Camp
Spring break at Pacific Rim Christian University is more than just a pause from academics—it's a time for spiritual growth, service, and creativity. This year, the university’s music ministry had the incredible opportunity to serve at the Youth For Christ (YFC) Hawaii camp, combining ministry outreach with personal development in a unique and impactful way.
Serving at Youth For Christ Hawaii Camp
The Youth For Christ Hawaii camp is known for creating transformative experiences for middle and high school students, introducing them to Christ through relational ministry and mentorship. Pacific Rim Christian University’s music ministry stepped into this mission during spring break by leading worship sessions that brought campers closer to God. The team’s heartfelt performances and spirit-filled leadership provided a safe and uplifting environment for young attendees to experience Jesus profoundly.
The camp's emphasis on building relationships and fostering faith aligned perfectly with the university's values. By serving as humble mentors and worship leaders, the music ministry team embodied servant leadership, using their talents to inspire hope and joy in campers facing various challenges.
A Retreat for Growth
While serving others was central to their spring break experience, the music ministry also used this time as a retreat for their development. The serene Hawaiian setting provided an ideal backdrop for learning music theory, strengthening relationships within the team, and embarking on the creative process of songwriting.
Music Theory Workshops: Team members dedicate time to deepening their understanding of music theory and enhancing their ability to craft meaningful worship experiences. These sessions improve technical skills and enrich their spiritual connection to music as a form of praise.
Relational Growth: Spring break offered an opportunity for team bonding. Members grew closer as a community through shared meals, prayer sessions, and relaxed moments by the beach. This relational growth translated into stronger collaboration during worship sessions.
Songwriting Beginnings: Inspired by their service at the YFC Hawaii camp and shared experiences during the retreat, the team began crafting original songs. These compositions reflect hope, faith, and unity themes—messages they aim to share with their campus community and beyond.
Impactful Outcomes
The dual focus on service and personal growth enriched the experience. The music ministry returned to campus with strengthened skills and a renewed passion for worship leadership. Their time at the YFC Hawaii camp served as a reminder of how ministry can be both an act of giving and a journey of self-discovery.
As Pacific Rim Christian University continues its mission to equip students for lives of service and leadership, experiences like these exemplify what it means to live out faith in action. Whether leading worship or writing songs that glorify God, the music ministry team is making lasting contributions to their community and the Kingdom.
Spring break may be over, but its impact will resonate far beyond one week—through melodies sung in chapel services, relationships built among team members, and lives touched at YFC Hawaii camp.
